Makenna's Seizures
It was two days after Emma had broke her arm and we were sitting down to eat lunch. Jacob asked Kenna to give the prayer and she didn't respond to him. So he asked again and I noticed that she was just staring and her head was twitching a little. I told him I think she is having a seizure so he ran to her and began talking to her and then she came out of it. We thought it was maybe just a fluke so we went on like normal. Then, we went camping and it happened again when we were sitting down to eat. When we got home and it happened a third time in the hallway with me, we knew something was wrong. We informed the school about it on the first day back from Spring Break and they called me that same day and told me she had a seizure in class. So we took her to urgent care and got started with the process of what might be going on with Kenna. We were able to catch a couple of seizures on video while she slept but we weren't ever fast enough to catch the ones when she was awake. As a matter of fact, we only saw the seizures enough while she was awake to become aware that they were happening and then we never saw them during the day again. It was just enough of a blessing for us to realize they were happening. Eventually we took her to get an EEG which was very interesting! We had to keep her up and only give her four hours of sleep. Luckily she had a seizure during the EEG so they could actually see one happening. We had to wait to meet with the neurologist and when we finally did, he diagnosed her with childhood epilepsy. For now, she is taking medication every morning and night. Since she has been on the meds, we haven't seen any except the one time I missed a dose! We will continue with the medicine and checking in with the neurologist for the next couple of years and hope that she will grow out of it!
